No, I didn’t buy Bitcoin. And I didn’t buy $GME call options either.

I graduated from college in 2018 with no job lined up, little interview experience, and an Excel spreadsheet of all 100+ Software Engineer openings I applied to and was automatically rejected from. Little did I know, I would be able to turn my situation around and grow my net worth to over $200,000 in the next 2 years.

The Overview

By graduating a year early from college, I was able to save on tuition expense, but also suffered from a severe lack of internship experience. I sat down with my parents, and they encouraged me to move back home while I continued to apply for jobs. I shifted my search outside of the traditional tech companies I was applying to, and started sending my application in for internships. If experience is what I needed, then I figured it wasn’t too late to start getting it.

I sent my resume to a trading firm for a Software Engineering Intern position, and quickly moved through the interview process. They were less-than-enthused with my current level of programming skills (I earned a 4/10 on my programming challenge phase of the interview), but impressed with my attitude and desire to learn. I was hired shortly after, and began my 39-hour-per-week paid internship.
